RETURN – Glasgow, October 2023

Return is a live ensemble music and spoken word performance conceived by writer, musician and activist Lisa Fannen, evocatively taking place in the candlelight on the full moon in Govan round church. Lisa needed a poster and flyer that conveyed a sense of time, seasons and cycles for this immersive ritual theatre show.

I created a series of original cyanotype prints which I manipulated in Photoshop to produce the final image for the print poster and flyer. I also created social media versions for use on Instagram, Facebook and Eventbrite, and a print programme using additional cyanotype imagery.

AFTER ALL – Edinburgh, August 2023

After All is the exuberant first solo performance by Solène Weinachter of Scottish Dance Theatre exploring the taboos of death and grief through dance, theatre, humour and storytelling. Premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2023, Solène needed a poster that would stand out amid hundreds of Fringe posters jostling for attention.

The starting point for Solène’s poster was an incredible photo by Genevieve Reeves of Solène in a sandy ‘grave’ we dug on Portobello Beach. My task was to create a poster that gave a nod to its themes, incorporating key show information, and the hosting venue’s branding.

WHYBRARY – online, ongoing

The Whybrary is an ongoing project by Bristol Co-operative Gym founder and Good Gym Guide podcast creator Guy Lochhead. Originally produced in the form of a zine, it evolved into a free fortnightly newsletter amplifying ‘brilliant things to share with children’. It is an imaginary library based on subjects that interested Guy, which must meet the criteria that entries are: hopeful (that sharing it would make us feel better about the future), undervalued (relatively unknown, misunderstood or misrepresented) and explainable (whether appreciation of it required certain knowledge or experience, or was more accessible).

Guy needed some general illustrations for the Whybrary, as well as a drawing to accompany each newsletter. He would provide the ten or so entries for each newsletter while I would select one entry from these to illustrate, and through this chronological journey we amassed a wealth of imagery conveying the expansive and whimsical nature of the Whybrary.
